A company's record of how it actually worked: messages, email threads, documents, tickets and the outcomes attached to them. Labs use it to build realistic workplace tasks and RL environments. Most offers come from data vendors and brokers, often when a company winds down.
What drives the price
- Years of history: five years beats five months, because buyers pay for patterns.
- Linked records: a ticket tied to its Slack thread, Jira issue and fix is worth more than separate exports.
- Visible outcomes: work where you can see what happened next (deal closed, bug fixed).
- Headcount × years in operation × how heavily the team used its tools.
- Clean rights and scrubbed personal data. Data you can't prove you can license is worth nothing to serious buyers.
Before you sign
- ✓Ask for a week. 48-hour deadlines are a pressure tactic, not a market norm.
- ✓Get competing bids. Spirit Airlines' archive drew bids from both Google and Mercor.
- ✓Ask who pays for removing personal data, and who verifies it.
- ✓Decide how you'll handle employee consent before you sign.
- ✓Ask whether the license is exclusive and whether the buyer can resell your data.
- ✓If a broker is involved, ask what cut they take.
